This is designed to take undisturbed samples from very soft and preferably
very wet soils. It is made from a tapered stainless steel half-tube that is
pushed into the soil, turned to cut the core and then withdrawn containing
the "plug" of soil. It can be used on the surface or down an
augered hole but resampling is limited by the hole collapsing. The standard
size is 50mm OD (optional 60 or 73 OD) at the top by whatever length suits
your application. Connections for T-handles or Extension Rods are by either
of our standard coarse thread, or a hex fitting with a pin. Options: Sizes (60mm or
73mm), Length; Thread or Hex connection. |

Code PSS,
This is used to take undisturbed samples in saturated sands or soft mud. It
works on a similar principle as the fisherman's bait pump. As the stainless
steel tube is pushed down using down force on the Casing Clamp (supplied) as
well as the down force created by pulling on the rope attached to the piston
and passing over the pulley mounted to the top of the sampler tube, the
piston is pulled up the tube sucking in the sample into the tube. When the
depth of sample is reached the rope is secured and the tube is pulled out of
the hole. The length of the sampler tube is directly related to the depth of
sample plus 450mm for mounting the clamp and the pulley. The sample is
discharged by either pushing the piston with a rod or by removing the piston
through the top and shaking the sample out into core trays (not supplied) or
into the short removable sleeve supplied with the sampler. Available in 50mm,
62mm & 75mm OD and in lengths to suit (usually up to 3.5 metres). The
manual force required to break the suction of the tube in the wet mud and the
weight of the sample, restricts the length and diameter that can be sampled.
Re-sampling in the same hole is usually not possible due to collapsing of the
hole. Choose as small a sampler as is possible for your need. Piston Sampler (down hole type) Item Code PSDH, This type is
similar to the surface except it has an attachment for extension rods to
connect to the top, it does not come with a casing clamp and the piston can
not be removed through the top. It is used when a sample is required from
down an augered hole or from the bed of a body of water. Down force is
applied via the extension rods and/or through a pulley attached to the
T-Handle on the extension rods. The piston is pulled up using a rope attached
to the piston. The piston cannot be removed through the top because of the welded
fitting for the extension rods. Similar sizes to surface type, are available
but the smaller the better. |

Code RDS,
Is used in very, very soft and wet conditions, The sampler is made from a
half-tube (longitudinally) of stainless steel with one pointed aluminium end,
a cover flap (blade) and a connection for extension rods. The sampler is
pushed into the very soft material until at the desired depth, the flap
excludes unwanted materials until the sample is required and then by turning
the T-Handle (supplied separately) the half-tube rotates and the flap traps
the sample inside while the sampler is removed. Made in 50mm, 62mm or 75mm
tube and up to 750mm long sample length. |
